The Museum of Fine Arts – Houston is one of my favorite places to visit. I really enjoy the wonderful exhibits they have, and being exposed to the various pieces of art, but I also appreciate the details of their facilities. I really didn’t notice their design until I walked into a room where the natural light was so beautiful that I decided to look at the ceiling. This is what I saw and I loved it!
I stood there, looking up for a few minutes, and admired the way the skylight was designed. I appreciated the way the air vents were sculpted as well as how the artificial lighting was setup so that these things did nothing to take away from the beauty of the space but actually added to it. I had to get the shot but needed to lie on the floor to get the view I wanted, which was to make this high ceiling and skylight abstruse. I wanted the viewer to be able to imagine this was a stone hallway with a light at the end of the proverbial “tunnel.” I wanted the walls to seem dark and cold so the light would draw the eye and inspire wonder as to what was on the other side.
If you ever visit and see this skylight then I hope you’ll think my composition matched my vision… Enjoy!
